Weapons played a major part in the Inca life. The Inca were very devoted to war so they obviously needed to have well trained warriors and good weapons. The expanse of the Inca was greatly due to their highly efficient weapons. Their weapons were the best suited for close quarter combat, which is how most battles were fought.

The slingshot was a common Inca weapon since it was accurate. Skilled Incan warriors could hit the head of a moving enemy at a distance of over 70 meters. Another common weapon was the boleadoras. They used this weapon to soften up the enemy lines. The enemy would get tangled up in the ropes, making them an easier target for slingshot shooters.

The weapons were considered advanced in South America. To the rest of the world, specifically Europe and the Middle East, these weapons were terribly outdated. The slingshot was made out of wood and the rubber of the rubber tree. The truncheon was cast out of iron with a wooden handle. All stone weapons were chiseled out of stone.

The weapons of the Inca were mostly all very close range weapons. A very symbolic Incan weapon was the truncheon and the axe, mostly since these were the most efficient for that type of combat. The truncheon had sharp copper or stone stars. A shield of copper or wood composed the defense weapons. The chest protector was made out of copper lined with leather. They occasionally used a wood or copper helmet to protect themselves from rocks. They decorated the helmet with feathers.

Every Incan citizen was trained in the use of all weapons. The training of the women was not nearly as intense as the training of the men but it was just enough to make them warriors. When the Incan government gave the order to assemble the army, it could be done in two weeks. The Inca warriors all had weapons of their own so once they got the order all they needed to do was assemble.
